The Irish Renaissance is known as a couple other things, such as the Irish Revival, the Celtic Renaissance, and the Celtic Revival.  This movement occurred sometime in the late 19^th century to the early 20^th.  The very goal of this was to give life to traditional folklore, legends, and traditions in new literary forms.

However, this Celtic movement was not merely for literary works regarding such things but there was also a political side to it.  Even the self government of Ireland and the struggle to claim independence has a big role and influence on the Irish Renaissance.  This brought about some of the greatest plays and dramas of J.M. Synge and Sean O’Casey, not to mention some of the finest works of poetry written by W.B. Yeats to name a few.  But one of the greatest things that came out this movement would have to be the establishment of the Abbey Theater.

The Round Table

This Round table is more than just where the knights of the fellowship got together for counsel and whatnot.  This also possessed a deep symbolic significance of unity and strength.  The very concept of the Round Table, as well as the knights,has kept its power for hundreds and hundreds of years on end.

A Look on Sir Lancelot

When it comes to the Arthurian Legend it is pretty fair to say that Sir Lancelot, also known as Sir Launcelot, is just as an important character as King Arthur himself.  He is the son of King Ban of Benoic and Queen Elaine although he was raised by Vivien, Lady of the Lake.  That is why he also carries the title “Lancelot of the Lake”.   He is a very dominant figure in the three main themes that this legend basically revolves around.  To start, you have the The fellowship of the Knights of the Round Table.  Then you have the quests for the Holy Grail which is also known as the Sangreal.  But most importantly, how can you forget the forbidden love triangle of Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot.

Regarding the knights, Sir Lancelot was the first to join the fellowship of the brave heroes and was also deemed the greatest of the 150 members of the Round Table.  As for the Holy Grail, he had gone on many adventures seeking it, although many times had been unsuccessful.  One of the failed quests actually started the whole love interest with Guinevere.  This was during her rescue from the sinister  Méléagant.   Later on, He had saved her once again.  But this time it was from being burned at the stake because of the crime of adultery- and who else do you think she had cheated on the King with?  Of course, it was none other than Sir Lancelot.

Lancelot Designer Costume

A Little History On King Henry VIII

Henry the VIII, Henry Tudor, was named after his father, king Henry the VII.  His mother was Elizabeth of York and he was born on June 28^th, 1491 in Greenich Palace.  The thing is, Henry the VIII wasn’t even expected to take over the throne since he is the second son and not the first.  That is why there is not much about him during his early years.  What is most known about him is only after his older brother passed away, Arthur, Prince of Wales.

Henry the VIII is actually one of the youngest kings to take over the throne.  Although he was only 18 years old when he became king, he had prepared for that day for a very long time.  It was actually rather refreshing to have such a youthful ruler in Court.  However, aside from that, one of the things that he is most famous for is his numerous marriages.  He had six wives, and his very first, Catherine of Aragon, was actually his older brother’s at first.

Henry VIII Plus Costume

Bring a whole new meaning to FANCY dress parties with this royal ensemble.  This is not a medieval knight costume as such but Henry had many knight costumes. This outfit is his dressing up gear when he is away from the jousting contests and hanging at the palace.

Knights of the Round Table

The Knights of the Round Table, also known as the Arthurian knights, gathered together along with King Arthur around, well, a round table, Hence their name.  The fellowship was believed to have had an estimated one hundred fifty members although only twenty five of names are inscribed at the Winchester Round Table.  These knights were brave, dashing, and debonair.  They were heroes protecting the weak and the poor.  They were rue champions who were well skilled in the art of battle.

However, just like any other brotherhood, there too were problems stemmed from envy and hatred among themselves.  There was the adultery committed by Lancelot with king Arthur’s very wife, the queen.  There was the enmity of Gawain.  But worst of all, what eventually led to the fall of Arthur’s kingdom was the betrayal of Mordred.

Female Knight Costume
